This book by Fred Kern is really two books in one. It has a piano method oriented towards adults, and it also has a pull out section of popular songs that correspond with the lessons in the method. The method book starts off with the basics, explaining how to position your hands and how to read music, and then quickly progresses to more interesting music. Plus, since it is geared to adults, it doesn't swamp you with unnecessary cartoons or mindless repetition. The pull-out "fun" section has several songs that range from one note at a time beginner melodies to fairly complicated full pieces. The book also has a compact disc accompaniment, which is available separately. The CD provides accompaniments to several of the lessons as well as to all of the songs found in the pull-out section. This product has a difficulty rating of 1 on a scale of 1 to 6 with 6 being the hardest. A CD is available separately.
